If you’d like to experience beautiful art for a great cause, plan to enjoy the Houston Via Colori Festival this year. Taking place on November 22nd and 23rd at Hermann Hall at City Square at 10am, it’s a family-friendly event that allows everyone to express themselves through art while enjoying great food and entertainment for charity.
All proceeds from Via Colori are going to The Center for Hearing and Speech, the only full-service resource in Houston that teaches deaf children to listen and speak without the use of sign language.
The festival revolves around squares of pavement that are sponsored by businesses, individuals, or families who pay to have talented artists from all over create the artwork within their space. Sponsors can buy squares for 3-D murals, specifically, or 10 foot to 6 foot squares. If you come out to the festival, you can also purchase and design your own square for a $10 donation.
This year the Houston Via Colori Festival will have artists coming all the way from Mexico, Florida, California and Georgia doing guest art spots on the ground at Hermann Park. There will be activities you can participate in throughout the day for all ages. KIND will have healthy snacks available and will tune your bike up for free while you grub. Pinot’s Palette will have a giant mural up that all attendees are encouraged to add their own touch to, and there is the Lucky’s Pub Street Scene Scavenger Hunt that gets you access to the Lucky’s Pub tent, one complimentary drink and live concerts. Winners of the scavenger hunt last year got prizes from some Houston locals such as Lucky Strike bowling, Goro & Gun Restaurant, and PedalParty Houston.
You can sign up to be an artist, if you’ve got sidewalk art skills, or a volunteer. Volunteers are needed to run the entire event smoothly and are the backbone to a great charity event like this.
