The Houston Zoo is always in need of new volunteers to help keep the zoo running smoothly!
The Summer Zoo Crew program is for teens age 13-17 who are interested in helping out as well as gaining valuable job skills through volunteering. The Zoo Crew program is designed to give them a peek at just what goes on in the daily operations of the zoo in order to maintain the welfare of all of the animals house there, as well as the businesses and other entertainment. Students working with Zoo Crew will also get a chance to see the different career options available at the zoo for those wishing to work directly with animals.
Applications are being accepted currently for the summer program and will be available online until February 28th. Remember, the Zoo Crew volunteer program lasts ten weeks of the summer and is a major time commitment, so plan accordingly. If this is your first year in Zoo Crew you will be helping out in the Education department doing fun activities such as Theatrical Interpretation, Education, and Camp Zoofari. Teens who have previously participated in the program are eligible to work in senior positions in those programs, as well as in certain animal sections.
If you are interested in joining the Zoo Crew this summer, you can fill out an online application, but be sure to read over the description and requirements. This may be a fun and enjoyable volunteer program, but it is still a commitment that you make to an organization of your time, and it is very important to be able to give 100% at your position. Read through the full job description and then, fill out an online application in order to be considered for the position this summer. Applications for adult volunteers are also being accepted until January 31, 2015. Good luck and we hope you have tons of fun while you learn about the interesting inner workings of the Houston Zoo!
I would love the opportunity to work at the Houston Zoo. My love for animals is endless. I have been given the privilege to live on buffalo bayou. I have rescued rabbits from landscaper and the local wildlife. We have raised several generations of rabbits. We have raised birds that have fallen from the nest. Animals are a true love of mine and I consider it a blessing to be trusted with their care. If I can be a service to the Houston Zoo I feel that is will be a true blessing. We are the voice of all animals and if I can be a service to those that do not have a voice I will truly be blessed.
