Are you attending the 2014 Shades of Roses Dinner? With an invitation boasting an evening which is “not just an ordinary dinner,” but a wine-pairing five course dinner hosted by an incredible non-profit organization, this is could be an incredible event you don’t want to miss.
The Holly Rose Ribbon Foundation was founded in 2005 by Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Franklin Rose and his wife Cindi Harwood Rose after Cindi’s sister passed away from breast cancer. They have made it their mission to provide free reconstructive surgery to women, men and children who have battled cancer and cannot afford health insurance. Scholarships, grieve counseling and art programs for children undergoing cancer treatment are also provided through the non-profit organization.
Next Sunday, September 14, 2014, the foundation will host a benefit to honor Alex Martinez and Diane Caplan, this year’s recipients of the Tracey Hilfman Award. The award, given to supporters of cancer research while assisting friends or family courageously battling cancer, was named after a loving mother and wife, who passed away from breast cancer in 2010. Both recipients are being recognized for their volunteer efforts and hard work to support the foundation’s mission.
The evening will feature a performance by Kristine Mills, jazz vocalist and recipient of multiple Houston Press Music Awards, as well as, a spectacular wines from around the world. Now in its ninth year, Shades of Roses raises a glass to the outstanding volunteer efforts in the local community. There will also be an auction, and you are encouraged to bring a gift certificate, a bottle of champagne or wine as a donation.
The 2014 Shades of Roses Dinner will take place at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar [2405 West Alabama], with individual seats, or “blooms,” for a tax-deductible donation ranging from $250-$500. All of the proceeds will go towards creating children’s hospital art programs, free breast reconstruction surgery to the uninsured, and a number of programs geared toward helping ease the emotional and financial issues brought by this disease.
